The Nordic welfare model is known for its progressive social and environmental values and universal policies. The Nordic countries could therefore play a leading role when it comes to social equality and security internationally. That is one of the reasons why the basic income groups in the Nordic countries have started cooperating across national borders and form the foundation for this conference. The first Nordic conferences were held in Copenhagen, Denmark (2016) and Reykjavik, Iceland (2017). In 2018, the conference takes place in Tampere, Finland, and precedes the global BIEN congress.
